When asked if I wanted to review Hooks and Needles subscription box I felt really excited. I have them in the top of my 8 Best Knitting Subscription Boxes post, because of their short and fun projects.
I believe in transparency, and even though I was given this subscription box from Hooks & Needles, this review is based on my own thoughts, opinions and experience.
Let’s start by addressing the basic question…
What is a subscription box?
A subscription box is a paid service that delivers curated products regularly to customers’ doorsteps, typically based on specific interests or needs. These boxes often contain a variety of products, ranging from beauty and wellness items to crafting projects. Subscribers can enjoy the excitement of discovering new products and projects while conveniently receiving them at their homes.
Hooks and Needles Subscription Box
Hooks and Needles subscription service provides a monthly delivery of three distinct boxes for knit, crochet, and amigurumi. Each box contains all the necessary materials to create a project of one of three skill levels: easy, intermediate, or advanced.
As I am a knitter at heart I chose the knitting subscription box and the intermediate project, a mug cozy.

Now to the review…
What did the knitting subscription box include?

The Pattern Book
The book contains three different patterns, each on different diffilculty levels, easy; Sunset Swirl Tote, intermediate; Mug Cozy and advanced; Gradient Scarf.

All the patterns has both written and image instructions on how to make the project. You can also scan a barcode to get to an instruction video. This covers different ways of learning, some people want images while others like to follow videos. I, as an already experienced knitter, chose to follow the written instructions but sometimes leaned on the images for extra clarity.
The knitting videos are clear and easy to follow. They are made as KAL (Knit A Long) where you can follow a long the video when knitting, and pause whenever you need. I would have liked to see the videos divided in chapters to make it easier to just jump to special sections, like ‘How to Cast On?’ or ‘How to change colors?’.
Beyond the patterns the book has general tips and information on knitting.
The Yarn
Three skeins of yarn in the three different colors was included in this subscription box. The colors were fun, fresh and modern. I usually knit with neutral colors as off-white or beige, but the mustard, ivory and lavender colored yarn that was included got me out of my comfort zone and I really enjoyed the colors, especially now in spring.

Hooks & Needles yarn ‘Merino Charm’ is made of 100% unshrinkable extrafine Merino wool, is made in Italy, and is mulesing-free which makes it sheep friendly. A high quality yarn.
The Accsessories
The box included all the accsessories needed to make any of the knit projects, ie a double pointed needle for making the cables in the Mug Cozy. The material quality is very good, I really like the little extra, as the buttons in the little sheer bag and the sewing needles neetly packed in a wooden case. Small details that elevates your experience.

With this box a special gift was also included, a pair of swan-shaped scissors. As I understand Hooks & Needles usually include something extra in their subscription boxes.
Knitting experience
I had a hard time choosing which knit project I would do. As I said earlier there are three different projects with three difficulty levels and they were all intriguing. If I was a beginner I would have chosen the easiest knit project, and then advance my skills every month with the next level project. But lucky me! I have enough experience to tackle all off the projects. At the end I chose the Intermediate pattern, the Mug Cozy.

Knitting the Mug Cozy was straightforward and if you are used to cables, quite quick as well. The only trouble I had was that the yarn easily split, especially when working the cables, but other than that the yarn was very soft to work with and it gives an excellent stitch definition.
It was knitted flat and then sewn together so no ‘knitting in the round’ required. Actually, non of the patterns requiered to be knit in the round, so the circular needles is only used to knit flat which can be confusing for beginners.
Each mug cozy only uses 10 grams of each color which means that you could knit multiple cozies’ and with different color combinations, as each skein weights 50 grams. I will certainly knit more and use them as wrist warmers when I’m knitting or working on the computer during the chilly season.
